Walking La Terre Noire Quimper

The weather is changeable all morning. At noon, the sky clears up and the sun comes out. We also go out for a walk here in Quimper. Not into the city, but out to its outskirts. Surprisingly, it is very green. Along the streets, meadows, trees, and shrubs line the way, and there’s a scent of blossoms in the air. We walk to a residential area where some façades are decorated with fabulous murals. They are impressive. Without this art, they would be dreary, gray high-rises.

We pass by an old church, the Église Sainte-Claire de Penhars. I would have liked to take a look inside, but it is closed. Not far from there, we leave the main road and come to a former railway track. This is currently being converted into a green hiking trail and can be walked on during times when no work is being done.

The further we move away from the city, the quieter and more natural it becomes. The route is lined with trees, and I imagine how romantic a train journey in a steam locomotive must have been back then. But also how beautiful it will be when the path is completed. Eventually, we turn around and walk back along the entire railway track. An elderly man speaks to us, and after a nice conversation, we make our way back to our accommodation.
