A Coastal Tour
It’s my day off and I’m using it for an excursion. Though it’s cloudy, it isn’t raining when I start. I drive along the picturesque coast in a southerly direction and enjoy the wonderful solitude.
Station 1 – Chapelle de Saint-Samson
48°32’57.8″N 4°44’05.3″W
My first stop is the Chapelle de Saint-Samson, an enchanting small chapel right by the sea. It was built in 1785 and carries its age with impressive dignity, like so many of the magnificent stone buildings from another era. It harmonizes perfectly with the breathtakingly beautiful landscape.
I walk to the chapel, whose bright red door is locked. Then I wander further down to the coast, where the GR34 runs and forms a natural border between the flourishing land and the vibrant sea. Here I stand still and gaze delightedly at the glittering open sea.
It is the sea in which my soul is reflected. Especially this sea, the majestic Atlantic up here at the end of the world. What wonderful tranquility lies over this coast, accompanied by the cheerful roaring of the water. Dreamy light fog lies over the lush green, living meadows. Behind them the magnificent rocks and then the radiant sea. It seems so incredibly peaceful.
Station 2 – Le dragon de Landunvez
48°32’39.7″N 4°44’45.5″W
I stop at a parking lot right by the road. From there it’s only a short walk to the fascinating rock formation on the coast. The closer I get, the more glorious becomes the melodic rushing of the waves breaking against the rocks. Here, each step is a conscious step. And then I see it, observe it enthusiastically and am completely captivated.
Time no longer matters. All thoughts lose themselves in the infinite expanse of the vast horizon or are simply washed away by the roaring waves. Full of happiness, I wander around the rocks or sit on one and watch the dancing waves. It’s like a meditation.
I continue up to the road where an old ruin stands in a meadow. The Kerprich-ar-Mor was a base for fishermen. An old stone building, or what remains of it. From here you can overlook a large part of the sea. What an indescribably glorious sight.
Station 3 – Dolmen de Beg-ar-Vir
48°31’00.2″N 4°46’13.3″W
Next, I drive further along the coastal road through idyllic villages that gently merge into one another. I drive into the rain and arrive at the parking lot on the narrow peninsula. Then it gets stronger and suddenly turns into a refreshing shower. As it subsides as suddenly as it began, I can look at the bay directly in front of me.
The coast is lovingly lined with pretty houses, a golden sandy beach, surrounded by characterful rugged rocks. It’s only drizzling gently now, and I decide to drive to my next station.
Station 4 – Chanter Braz
48°28’27.4″N 4°44’44.4″W
Opposite the magnificent Eglise Saint Ildut, on the other side of the picturesque bay, I discover a fascinating ruin. I’m magically drawn to it. What I then find on the other side delights me even more. Here too is an old ruin and many impressive large stones that seem artfully arranged. The GR34 also leads through here. The path is narrow, passing by the mystical ruin and majestic rocks, through an enchanting small woodland, then continuing along the Aber Ildut, the dreamy bay.
Even though the shrubs and trees don’t yet bear leaves, it’s incredibly beautiful. How fantastic it will be when spring arrives and everything here blooms in the magnificent colors of nature. Just this thought makes my heart beat faster with joy. I feel infinitely happy.
Station 5 – Arche de l’île ségal
48°26’12.6″N 4°47’01.0″W
Buoyantly, I drive on and reach a small parking lot right by the sparkling sea. A charming, narrow spit completely made of golden sand is right in front. Playful waves break on both sides. The radiant sea blocks access to a green piece of land, now a mysterious island. I am the only person down here and as indescribably happy as I haven’t been in a long time.
The horizon is boundlessly wide, as are my dreams, which I send full of hope to the universe from here. I would like to be at home here forever. With a wonderfully warm feeling of deep contentment, I walk a bit further along the GR34 trail along the dreamy coast until I reach a magical point from which I overlook some golden beaches and the spectacularly descending cliffs of this breathtakingly beautiful landscape.
And right here I decide with a smile to end the wonderful excursion for today. On the horizon, gentle fog is rolling in. It takes nothing away from the radiant beauty, but the day is happily coming to an end and I should return. I am completely saturated with happiness and at the same time liberated and inspired. This is a perfectly spent, unforgettable day.
