I like to remember the woodland that was so quiet and green that we could just walk through. Enjoying it with every step. It was so different from anything we’d seen here before. And the scent. But also a feeling of deep contentment, which is so precious and also so fleeting, which I felt very intensely during this time.

But instead I see a body lying on the road next to a car. It’s covered with a white sheet. There’s no life left in it. A policeman waves us past with his right arm, indicating with his left that we should drive past slowly. But certainly not so that we can take a closer look at the silent horror.
